Registration
ALL CLIMBERS HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR REGISTRATION PACKETS IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE PARKING GARAGE BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN THE CLIMB! CLIMBERS WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO PICK UP THEIR OWN REGISTRATION PACKET! YOU CANNOT PICK UP ANOTHER CLIMBER'S REGISTRATION PACKET FOR THEM.
CLIMBERS MUST PRESENT THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSE TO PICK UP THEIR REGISTRATION PACKET.
The only time to pick up your registration packet will be the morning of the climb. We WILL NOT be having a Friday evening pick up this year. Your climber bag will also contain a picture of the fallen brother you are climbing for to tape to your SCBA bottle if you wish. All climbers will need to pick up their packet and check in at Staging on Saturday morning
Registration will open at 6:30am on Saturday September 7, 2019 at the Epic Center located at 301 N Main Wichita, KS 67202.
Check In
ALL CLIMBERS WILL NEED TO CHECK IN WITH STAGING in the Lower Level of the parking garage. Each team needs to designate a team leader to maintain accountability of all team members AND be present for Staging announcements. First heat Staging announcements will be at 8:00 AM, Second heat Staging announcements will be at 10:15 AM, and Third heat Staging announcements will be at 12:15.
Staging for Climbers and Their Gear
Staging for climbers will be at the Lower Level parking garage, near the North stairwell. Climbers are encouraged to deliver their gear to their designated staging area in the lower level when they arrive. There are banners present designating each department's staging area. Although there may be multiple teams from some cities/departments, they will all share the same staging area. Climbers are encouraged to sign the back of their department's banner however, DO NOT REMOVE YOUR DEPARTMENT'S BANNER FROM THE STAGING AREA! Banners that come up missing WILL NOT BE REPLACED!!!
TURNOUT GEAR AND SCBA ARE ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN IN THE BUILDING BEFORE THE CLIMB. It is imperative that climbers be respectful of all areas of the Epic Center. Please leave all turnout gear in your designated area in staging.
Heats and teams will be posted throughout the staging area, which further reinforces the need to get to the staging area early to make sure you know when you will be climbing.
Opening Ceremonies
Opening ceremonies will begin promptly at 8:20. Unless we have unfavorable weather, opening ceremonies will be in the outside parking lot on the north side of the Epic Center.
THE FIRST THREE TEAMS NEED TO BE READY TO START CLIMBING IMMEDIATELY AT 8:46 following the ceremony’s closing procession.
Parking
Parking is available at the Epic Center parking garage located on 2nd Street just west of Main St. An attendant will be there to guide you in. There is also a public lot on 3rd street at City Hall and just to the west on Waco, between 3rd and Central. There and several other lots in the area that are free of charge.
Spectators
Our event is open to families and the public to view and we encourage their attendance. There are two designated spectator areas in the Epic Center; One is in the front entryway on the east side of the building, off of Main street. The other is the atrium area that is accessed off the north side of the building. The atrium will have monitors streaming live video of the climbers in the stairwells as well as a "kids corner" inside for kids to color and watch the climbers on another video monitor. There are also several static displays in the north parking lot.
Climber and Heat Assignments
Climber and heat assignments will be released in the coming days. These will be posted on the website and notification of when they are posted will be on Facebook and email.
Merchandise
There will be a merchandise booth in the atrium spectator area of the Epic Center where we will be selling Wichita 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb 2019 event t-shirts, patches, and challenge coins. Again, NO TURNOUT GEAR OR SCBA IS ALLOWED IN THIS AREA except while participants are beginning their climb.
We will also be raffling a brand new, Cairns N5A New Yorker leather fire helmet with custom, hand made helmet shield by Fireruh Leather. The helmet will be a standard configuration N5A with Bourke eyeshields, in any of the colors available from Cairns. Tickets are $10 per entry and the winner does not have to be present to win. Click on the "Helmet Raffle" tab on this website for details. You can also purchase tickets the day of the climb.
